Wishlist: wild ideas
These are ideas and fantasies that would be fun to have or implement.
- Discover a cure for melanoma.
- "Unique-shape" jigsaw puzzle for blind people. Each puzzle has a unique shape that is not repeated among the collection of pieces. First iterations of this puzzle would contain relatively few pieces; but as the fad increases, and the manufacturing process becomes more sophisticated, the size of the puzzles (number of pieces) could increase as well. Perhaps the puzzles could also contain embossings or tactile markings to help the blind person in putting together the jigsaw "picture".
- Voice-activated car radio, with record option and theme-based search. Bluetooth-enabled with channels so that different travellers can each listen to separate radio stations.
- Buy a Smart car, but convert it to run on gas.
- Hire a personal trainer full-time.
- Slim myself down (stop eating) to fit into the clothes I wore when I was 20.
- Live in Magyarország (Hungary) for a few months to improve my Magyar (Hungarian), teach something, and zip over to Tunisia for exotic vacations. Oops, every since the Arab Spring, Tunisia no longer welcomes or tolerates gay people. Maybe skip over to Tel Aviv? Oops there again. I don't think they'd let me through security.
- A small decorative green island with a tree to break up the monotony of the asphalt sea (they call it a "court") I view from my front door. Some way I can get my neighbors enthusiastic about this idea to add something of interest to our end of the street. Something nice to come home to.
- A sidewalk in front of my house that also leads to some place interesting and walkably close.
- Move to someplace from which I can walk easily to all venues of interest (sidewalks leading to shopping, entertainment, lattes, parks, transportation nodes, people).
- Personal helper/companion for my mother who is 89, blind, but sharp and active. Someone to set up a voice-controlled computer and Internet system she can use to communicate with me and the family.
- Gardening assistant for my mother, who likes/liked to garden but can't see.
- Terraform a mountain throughout the Southern Corridor just north of my house. For those not in Ottawa, I live in a neighborhood just south of a relatively large natural land corridor that separates our neighborhood from another one attached to the city. This corridor is about 1km wide where my house is located and widens a bit as it goes west towards the Rideau River. Near the river, the corridor is split by a wide boulevard-type road (Riverside Drive) that rushes traffic into and out of the city. It would be ideal - for me (not everyone would be as enthusiastic) - to build some strong stone permanent-forever arches across Riverside Drive and then top up the land in the corridor so that it rises about 1000m at its highest point. The earth would pile onto the arches over the Drive and thus connect the corridor and migrating deer and other animals to the river, which they need in order to survive and prosper. The mountain would enclose the hydro lines and a railroad tunnel (for the current rail line). On the north side the mountain would fall in cliffs towards the northern neighborhood. On the southern side (my side), the slope would be gentler. We could build a small village half way up facing south, which would have belvederes overlooking the flatlands where the Rideau River rises towards Manotick and beyond. Nice cafe place. Maybe a library and a couple of religious centers. For me, this mountain would comfortably curve and protect our neighborhood from the north and west, thus increasing our gardening zone level probably from the 4B it is now, to maybe 5B like Toronto
While I'm at it, I would really appreciate seeing real snow-capped mountains as I look west along the long roads leading out of Ottawa in that direction. And a decently wide body of water between the foothills of those mountains and the Ottawa area. Maybe gradually tilt the land between Peterborough and Aylmer up and away so that the split on the closer side gradually fills with water, while the rising edge on the farther north and west side lifts up into majestic 3000m peaks?
